As a key player in the information infrastructure we pursue our own research program and also cooperate with leading universities and research associations.
We are a non-profit corporation and the largest non-academic institution for information infrastructure in Germany.
Our annual budget is over 45 million Euros, more than three-quarters of which is earned through the private-sector sale of our products and services. FIZ Karlsruhe has over 330 employees at three locations in Germany as well as a subsidiary in the United States.
We are seeking two full-time software developers to start at the earliest possible date.
You will be working with renowned research organizations, universities, museums, achives and libraries on collaborative projects in the field of e-Research, digital humanities and digital preservation of cultural heritage. We conduct applied research projects and transfer results into innovative products. We use cutting-edge technologies to build state-of-the-art systems, with a strong focus on open source software.
Your Future Responsibilities
- Identify, analyze and document user requirements
- Design and develop complex web-based software in the field of research data management, data archival and digital preservation
- Identify and evaluate relevant technologies and frameworks
- Present concepts, project results and products in meetings and at conferences
Your Qualifications
- Master of Science in Computer Science or equivalent
- Expertise in object-oriented development with Java/JavaEE, proficient in Design Pattern and experience with UML
- Good knowledge of internet protocols and standards, client-server model and service-oriented achitectures
- Familiarity with open source tools (Eclipse, Maven, Tomcat, etc.)
- Awareness of software quality ("clean code") and experience with tools like Jira, Jenkins, Sonar and Crucible or similar
- Experience in Web development with HTML5, CSS and Javascript
- Expertise in user interface design, with a focus on usability and user experience
- Knowledge of agile languages (Groovy/Grails is a plus)
- Expertise in XML technologies, web services (REST) and related frameworks (e.g. Spring and Apache CXF)
- Systematic work style and team spirit
- Good written and oral communication skills in either German or English

Compensation is set according to the Wage Agreement for Public Service (TVöD).
The initial employment contract is limited to a two-year period. Conversion of this contract to a permanent position is expressly foreseen provided certain requirements are met.
