Our annual budget is over 45 million Euros, more than three-quarters of which is earned through the private-sector sale of our products and services. FIZ Karlsruhe has over 330 employees at three locations in Germany as well as a subsidiary in the United States.


We are seeking a research assistant to start at the earliest possible date.

Your Future Responsibilities

Within a public funded project and in co-operation with the University of Hildesheim, methods for trend mining shall be tested and applied on patent texts. Your future tasks will comprise the generation of the required text corpora, adapting text analysis methods for clustering, implementing trend analysis procedures including statistical methods, and the evaluation of the implemented prototype.

The position includes the possibility for doing a PhD.

Your Qualifications

  • A university degree in computer science or information science
  • Very good knowledge of two or more of the following areas: information retrieval, text mining, computer linguistics, statistics, and patents
  • Very good knowledge of software engineering and object oriented development
  • Good knowledge of DBMS like Solr/Lucene, good experience with Java and Eclipse
  • Excellent conceptual and analytic skills
  • Very good communications skills and the ability to work in a team
  • Excellent written and verbal command of German and English

Compensation is set according to the Wage Agreement for Public Service (TVöD). The initial employment contract is limited to a three-year period. Conversion of this contract to a permanent position is expressly foreseen provided certain requirements are met.
