FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure is a leading international provider of scientific information and services. We are a non-profit corporation and the largest non-academic institution for information infrastructure in Germany.

Our annual budget is over 45 million Euros, more than three-quarters of which is earned through the private-sector sale of our products and services. FIZ Karlsruhe has over 330 employees at three locations in Germany as well as a subsidiary in the United States.


We are seeking two full-time software developers to start at the earliest possible date.

Your Future Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the further development of software and data architecture for a complex online retrieval system (www.stn-international.org)
  • Design and develop components of a service-oriented architecture; develop and standardize interfaces to the databases/indices
  • Develop interfaces for initial loading and regular updating of scientific and technical databases in the terabyte range
  • Design test strategies; develop integration and unit tests

Your Qualifications

  • A university degree in computer science, information science or a field of the natural sciences
  • Very good knowledge of object-oriented development with Java EE and in UML analysis and design
  • Experience with open source components and tools (Eclipse, Maven, Tomcat, etc.)
  • Good knowledge about working with databases and search engine technologies
  • Good understanding of XML and XSLT
  • Excellent conceptual and analytic skills
  • Very good communications skills and the ability to work on a team
  • Excellent written and verbal command of German or English

Compensation is set according to the Wage Agreement for Public Service (TVöD).

The initial employment contract is limited to a two-year period. Conversion of this contract to a permanent position is expressly foreseen provided certain requirements are met.
