Research and Projects

FIZ Karlsruhe pursues the following goals in its applied research and development:

  • To strengthen the quality of our products and services – for example, by improving the indexing of STN patent information;
  • To develop e-science solutions and infrastructure for the scientific community – for example, in the field of research data management;
  • To strengthen the importance of FIZ Karlsruhe as an actor within the scientific community;
  • To augment our position within the Leibniz Association.

Challenges and research questions
Rapid developments in science and technology are changing the way research is conducted by academia and business. The global networking of researchers is one key driver of accelerated scientific and technological change, for it leads new research trends and findings to quickly spread around the globe. Yet another key driver is competition between national scientific systems, which promotes greater efficiency and innovation. As a result of this new environment, researchers are placing new and greater demands on information infrastructure. It is imperative for us as a leading international provider of information infrastructure services to recognize and respond to new trends early on. Accordingly, we closely examine the issues and challenges faced by our users and customers. This ensures that our services are closely tailored to practical needs.

Projects
As an important player in the field of scientific information infrastructure we carry out our own research projects and also cooperate closely with renowned universities and research institutes
