A reason to celebrate: 10 years of partnership between ICSD and Technicum Scientific Publishing

Karlsruhe, May 20, 2026 — For the past ten years, Technicum Scientific Publishing and FIZ Karlsruhe have been collaborating on the enrichment of the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database (ICSD) with theoretical inorganic structures. To mark this anniversary, representatives of the company visited FIZ Karlsruhe to celebrate the successful partnership and to exchange views on recent developments and future perspectives of the database.

ICSD is the world’s largest information service for fully determined inorganic crystal structures and is among the key resources for both science and industry in the fields of crystallography, materials science, mineralogy, and inorganic chemistry. The database combines experimental and theoretical structures with extensive structural-chemical and bibliographic information, providing a central foundation for modern materials research and the development of new materials. 

The team around Dejan Zagorac has been supporting ICSD since 2016 in the selection and editorial processing of theoretical inorganic structures. Today, the database comprises more than 35,000 curated theoretical structures derived from peer-reviewed scientific publications. 

The meeting in Karlsruhe focused not only on personal exchange but also on current developments in theoretical structure data, internal workflows, and future opportunities for further expanding and advancing ICSD.
