STN adds Chinese patent full text file - CNFULL - including Numeric Property Search
As of March 17, 2012, CNFULL adds the full-text of Chinese patent applications and patent specifications from 1985 onwards to STN.
The Chinese Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China has been the top authority concerning the number of patent applications. In recent years, over 500,000 applications were filed annually.
The database features also the Numeric Property Search covering the numeric values of over 30 physical and chemical properties (/PHP) in almost 400 unit variants, searchable in all database fields with English text (English title, abstract, description and claims).
The records of the database contain bibliographic data including patent applicant, inventor, patent number, application, priority, and related (PCT) application data, IPC and EPC classification codes, abstract and the full text of descriptions and claims. Records are available about a week after publication with the complete content. Abstracts are initially machine translated and replaced three months later by human translated text; descriptions and claims are machine translated.
Each database record contains all documents published for one application, displayed in order of publication date. Legal status data and family display formats from the INPADOCDB database are available. Online thesauri for the International Patent Classification (/IPC) and European Patent Classification (/EPC) are searchable.
The file is updated weekly and comprises over 4.5 million records and more than 3.8 million images. Currently about 10,000 documents enter the file each week.
Numeric values of over 30 physical and chemical properties (/PHP) in almost 400 unit variants are searchable in all full text fields.

RTECS Database on STN® Enhanced with Aquatic and In Vitro Exposure Toxicity Data
Aquatic and in vitro exposure toxicity data is now available in RTECS (Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances) database. The new toxicity data is searchable in the Basic Index. It is also possible to search more specifically by Effect (EFF), Route (RTE), Organism (ORGN) and Duration (DUR).
The new data displays in the Toxicity data table as part of the TOX and TOXFULL formats, as well as in the ALL and certain other predefined display formats.

RTECS is a factual database that contains toxicity data and references for commercially important substances, including drugs and agrochemicals.
The substance information and toxicology results are collected by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
MARPAT® Database Enhanced with Additional Markush Backfile Content for STN®
CAS is enhancing the MARPAT database with additional backfile coverage from 1987 beginning with English- and German-language patents in March. Markush content for Japanese- and additional German-language patents from 1987 will be added throughout 2012.
Technology and management database (TEMA) – Backfile added
The TEMA® database, provided by the German Producer WTI Frankfurt, is an important source of literature for engineers, technicians and scientists. Since 2011 it has also been available to STN users from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. STN has enhanced TEMA by adding 2 million backfile documents from 1968-1989.
TEMA now covers more than 4.4 million references to international literature in the areas of technology and management. Coverage includes mechanical engineering and plant construction, electrical engineering and electronics, information technology, materials, textile technology, medical technology, management and operational organization.
Various enhancements to STN databases
• Derwent Drug File (subscriber file: DRUGU; non-subscriber file: DDFU)
Simultaneous left and right truncation (SLART) has been added to the Basic Index (/BI). The Derwent Drug File provides information from worldwide pharmaceutical literature on all aspects of drugs, from drug design to post marketing surveillance.
• Global mobility database (1MOBILITY and 2Mobility)
Simultaneous left and right truncation (SLART) has been added to the Basic Index (/BI), Title (/TI), and Abstract (/AB). The Numeric property search (NPS) is now available. 1MOBILITY contains information from worldwide technical literature on technologies for self-propelled vehicles for land, sea, air, and space. 2MOBILITY contains information on worldwide standards and specifications in the area of mobility engineering.

Creating Alternative Research Landscapes in STN AnaVist
It’s quite easy to create an alternative Research Landscape in STN AnaVist:
1) Change the Concept Frequency using Tools > Preferences > Research Landscape. For the most noticeable results, choose a Concept Frequency at least 10 percent higher or lower than the current setting.
2) Place your cursor in any corner of the current Research Landscape. Left click to draw a box around the entire Research Landscape. (Don’t worry if you go outside the lines.)
3) In your Documents window, select all documents by clicking on the check box in the Column Header:
4. Click on the Subset Visualization icon in the STN AnaVist toolbar to create your new Research Landscape. ![]()
The Research Landscape you just created will be part of a new project. Be sure to give this project a name, possibly one that identifies the changes you made to the concept frequency. After selecting your best concept frequency and Research Landscape, you may want to eliminate some of the variant projects.
Creating different visualizations is free, and a great way to get value from your STN AnaVist project. Alternative research landscapes may make it easier for you to study interpret your results.
Get the content you need sooner with ePub ahead of print records available in MEDLINE on STN!
With ePub ahead of print records, you can:
• Easily identify ePub records from an answer by the EPUB AHEAD OF PRINT tag in the AN (Accession Number) field.
• Create an answer set of ePub ahead of print records using the FS (File Segment) field (e.g., S EPUB AHEAD OF PRINT/FS).
Coming soon! Access the most current versions of online-only articles in MEDLINE on STN. Current versions will be reflected in the DN (Document Number)field for that record (e.g., DN PubMed ID: 20029611.2 Version ID: 3 Version Date: 2012/03/14).
