The Secret Life of CAS REGISTRY
With more than 52 million substances recorded, the CAS REGISTRY is the most comprehensive and highest-quality compendium of publicly disclosed chemical information in the world.  Obtaining the information you need from such a large and content-rich resource may appear daunting at first. Your search efficiency and confidence level will be enhanced, however, as you peer behind the scenes at the capabilities of special REGISTRY indexes and unique search fields and learn how to capitalize on them.

See how REGISTRY serves as the hub connecting you to other information resources throughout STN. Master techniques and tips that may be unknown even to people who have been using REGISTRY for years.

In this session, you will learn how to deftly extract the substance information you need from CAS REGISTRY through use of the following:

  • Locator Field
  • Inventory Field
  • Polymer Class Terms
  • Properties
  • Source of registration
  • Substance Class Identifiers
  • Types of names

Legal Status – A Case Study
Legal status is a vital but often-overlooked aspect of intellectual property assets. Who actually owns the rights to the invention, how long is the patent coverage and what is the scope of the coverage can only be determined through investigating a document’s legal status. This talk will present several scenarios where the legal status information found on STN will prove invaluable in determining what a company might actually own. This presentation will also illustrate STN’s unique legal status categories, which can be used to help decipher large amounts of legal status data.

Approaches for Analysis of Patent Data on STN
Learn about the analysis and visualization capabilities on STN, including STN AnaVist, STN Viewer, and STN Express, Version 8.4.

In this session you will learn techniques for effective use of ANALYZE, ANALYZE PLUS, TABULATE, and other features on the STN platform for live analysis of search results. In addition, learn to perform advanced analysis and visualization of patent search results with STN AnaVist, including an interactive workspace that displays a range of dynamically integrated data visualizations, including bar charts, matrix charts, and Research Landscapes (cluster/contour maps). This session will also include harmonization and standardization of data prior to visualization, a data grouping feature that permits further editing and customization of the data occurring in any particular field across the available STN databases, and flexible tools for deeper analysis of data subsets.
