STN Express® with Discover!™—Analyze Plus Wizard
Available with the Analysis Edition, Version 7.01 and higher
The Analyze Plus Wizard lets you easily:
- Analyze, cross-tabulate, and chart data in Microsoft® Excel from single- or multi-file search results for one or two fields of data
- Cross-tabulate and chart data in Microsoft® Excel using terms from the ANALYZE command
- Group related author/inventor names and company names for better analysis and visualization results
Conduct a search in one or more databases and obtain an L-number answer set.
Select the L-number answer set (L4 in this example) to analyze. Click Analyze Plus.
Select one or two fields to analyze. Retain the default setting, Group similar terms, to utilize the Data Group Tool later. Click Options for additional customization of results.
Note: Standard Microsoft Excel limits apply when creating the chart and cross-tabulation.
Select from the options and click OK to return to the Analyze Plus Wizard window. Then click Analyze.
The Analyze Plus Wizard executes all the appropriate STN commands, e.g., ANALYZE and DISPLAY for a one-field analysis, or ANALYZE and TABULATE for a two-field analysis. The results are displayed in your online session.
The Data Group Tool displays each data field individually. For the Author/Inventor Name, Corporate Source/Patent Assignee, and Company Name fields, similar terms are automatically grouped by STN Express. You can, however, customize the groupings manually. Click Next when you are satisfied with the groupings for the field.
For the Publication Year and other fields, terms are not grouped automatically, but you may manually group them if you choose. Click Finish when you are done grouping terms.
STN Express cross-tabulates your data and displays it as a Microsoft Excel worksheet.
The worksheet contains the standard Microsoft Excel chart.
In addition, the worksheet also contains the corresponding raw data.
A Microsoft Excel workbook displays a 3-D column worksheet and a Cross-tab worksheet.
The STN Express toolbar near the top of the window may be used to sort data, change the magnification, combine rows or columns, delete rows and columns, and more.
The interactive worksheets also let you display records in STN. To display records from the Cross-tab view, double-click the cell. To display records associated with multiple cells, select the cell(s) and click
from the toolbar.
Choose your display options. Click Display.
STN Express displays the requested answers in a separate window.
