STN Library and Information Science(LIS) Training Program
STN searching is a key skill for Library School graduates. Our goal is to help students become proficient STN searchers, so that they can list “knowledge of STN” on their resumes.
The STN LIS Training Program
- gives students an understanding of the unique content and functionality of STN
- teaches the key STN commands needed for searching
- provides insight into common types of science and technology searching, including patent searching
- introduces students to related tools for analysis, full-text access, and end-user searching
The STN LIS Training Program is designed to be flexible and fit into many types of classes. The basic curriculum can be covered in a few class sessions and can be augmented as needed for more advanced classes. The STN LIS Training Program curriculum, training, and online searching will be offered to Library and Information Science Programs at no charge.
The STN LIS Training Program includes
- student handbook
- STN login IDs for faculty and students for online practice
- a PowerPoint® presentation to guide instruction
- access to STN via STN Express® or STN® on the WebTM
- selected STN databases
- Training and support provided by the FIZ Karlsruhe Help Desk
