RTECS Database on STN Enhanced with Aquatic and In Vitro Exposure Toxicity Data
12. March 2012
Aquatic and in vitro exposure toxicity data is now available in RTECS (Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances) database. The new toxicity data is searchable in the Basic Index. It is also possible to search more specifically by Effect (EFF), Route (RTE), Organism (ORGN) and Duration (DUR).
The new data displays in the Toxicity data table as part of the TOX and TOXFULL formats, as well as in the ALL and certain other predefined display formats.
Field | Data Type | Example | Notes |
Effect (EFF) | Type of toxic effect | L60 (tumors) | Search by Effect codes effect (e.g., s “L60”/eff). Expand in the EFF field to identify Effect codes of interest |
Route (RTE) | Route of exposure | Inhalation
Organism (ORGN) | Organism exposed to toxic substance | Rabbit
Dose (DOSE) | Dose of toxic agent, including descriptive information about the dose (e.g., LD50=median lethal dose). | LD50=3g/kg | Dose information is numerically searchable for the new aquatic toxicology and in vitro exposure data (e.g., s 444/dose) |
Duration (DUR) | Duration of exposure | 24H |
RTECS is a factual database that contains toxicity data and references for commercially important substances, including drugs and agrochemicals.
The substance information and toxicology results are collected by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
