In spring 2011, the committee "The future of the information infrastructure" (Kommission Zukunft der Informationsinfrastruktur – KII), chaired by Sabine Brünger-Weilandt, President & CEO of FIZ Karlsruhe, submitted a framework concept for a scientific information infrastructure in Germany to the Joint Science Conference (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz des Bundes und der Länder – GWK ). At the end of 2009, the GWK had commissioned the Leibniz Association to prepare such a concept. Mrs. Brünger-Weiland, in her function as an advisor of the Executive Board of the Leibniz Association in matters of information infrastructure, had then been invited to lead the group of experts.

On July 13, 2011, FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure was evaluated by the Senate of the Leibniz Association with an excellent result. The experts confirmed that FIZ Karlsruhe provides outstanding services for science and business.
