We are looking for a software developer (f/m/x) who is available for an immediate start at our Karlsruhe headquarters.
In our e-Research business segment we develop innovative information services for science and humanities (e.g., the German Digital Library (DDB), Archivportal-D), virtual research environments (e.g., TOPORAZ), and research data management systems (e.g., RADAR). We take the FAIR principles into account and, as far as possible, also the idea of Open Science/Open Data. The systems are established within collaborative projects with renowned research institutions, universities, archives and libraries and also within the framework of orders placed by commercial customers. We apply cutting-edge technologies with a special focus on open source software in order to develop and operate high-performance, secure and maintenance-friendly systems.
For the DFG-funded project “EEZU – Easy indexing and access system for small and medium-sized archives as open source software and hosted service“ we are looking for a skilled and dedicated software developer who would like to implement an innovative next-generation indexing system by means of innovative technologies together with our Information Service Engineering unit and our project partner State Archives of Baden-Württemberg.
Qualification and skills:
Master of Science in Computer Science or similar
A very good command of agile programming languages (preferably Groovy/Grails)
Skills in object-oriented software development with Java/JavaEE
Very good knowledge of semantic technologies, in particular in the field of Linked Open Data
Experience in working with Linked Data platforms, Triple Stores and Graph databases, e.g., Fedora Commons, Wikibase, Virtuoso, Blazegraph and neo4j
A sound knowledge of internet protocols and standards, especially RDF
A sound knowledge of XML technologies, web services (REST) and the corresponding frameworks (e.g., Spring)
Experience in working with IIIF and the corresponding APIs
Experience in working with open source applications (Eclipse, Maven, Tomcat etc.)
An awareness for software quality (“clean code“) and experience in applications such as Jira, Bamboo, Sonar, Crucible, etc.
A methodical approach to work and the ability to work in a team
Experience with agile development processes, preferably SCRUM
An excellent command of spoken and written English
