Between opt-out and openness: how “AI Preferences“ are supposed to regulate the use of AI

At present, the Internet Engineering Task Force IETF is developing the “AI Preferences“, i.e., a technical vocabulary designed to make the use of content by AI systems more transparent and controllable. Paul Keller is involved in the standardization process. Fabian Rack, a research assistant in the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) unit at FIZ Karlsruhe, spoke with him about the new preferences in the context of AI opt-outs, public domain, and CC Signals, and explained the significance this approach could have for open knowledge infrastructures.
