PRIMUS – Presentation and Legally Compliant Implementation of Digital Music Editions

The aim of the project ‘PRIMUS – Presentation and Legally Compliant Implementation of Digital Music Editions’ is to address an essential and hitherto unaddressed need in musicological research: the development of a description of legal aspects in musicological data and the expansion of a presentation system for the legally compliant provision of complex music editions whose editorial objects and research data involve a multitude of copyright, exploitation, personality and ancillary copyright issues. Using the example of the Bernd Alois Zimmermann Complete Edition, the project will examine various legal aspects and situations and map them in a structured and explicit manner in a Rights Expression Language so that research objects can be played out in the Edirom Online edition software on the basis of this information. For this purpose, Edirom Online will be connected to the identity and access management of NFDI4Culture. This will allow both the rights inherent in the data itself and third-party rights to exploitation to be mapped. At the same time, the inclusion of external data in editions (e.g. from library holdings) can be mapped in a legally compliant manner if the objects are also enriched with corresponding metadata.
