Successful evaluation: FIZ Karlsruhe convinces with excellent performance

Karlsruhe, 16 July 2025 – The Senate of the Leibniz Association has adopted the recommendations of the evaluation group and approved the statement on the scientific evaluation of FIZ Karlsruhe. This means that the evaluation process has almost been successfully completed. The final decision by the Joint Science Conference (GWK) is now pending.

The joint funding of FIZ Karlsruhe by the federal and state governments is to be continued. This is the recommendation by the Senate following completion of the regular evaluation. As with all Leibniz institutions, a new review of the funding requirements is planned in seven years' time.

In the evaluation, central areas of the institute were rated as “excellent” and “very good”. The quality of the information services, the research and the strong national and international networking were praised.

The international patent information service STN and the open access service zbMATH Open were particularly highlighted. Both services have been further developed in terms of content and technology with a view to the future.

FIZ Karlsruhe is also a sought-after partner in the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and is active in numerous projects for the digital transformation of science and culture. The successful expansion of the offering in the humanities and cultural sciences - particularly in the area of cultural heritage - has also attracted positive attention.

Research activities, such as the automated indexing of historical data and in the area of data protection law, make an important contribution to the further development of services.

The high level of self-financing, the good staffing and the commitment to training and equal opportunities were also expressly recognized.

FIZ Karlsruhe sees its strategic orientation strengthened by the evaluation. The Senate's recommendations are an incentive to continue along the path we have chosen.
