FIZ Karlsruhe develops – often in collaboration with partners - interdisciplinary e-science solutions. This is done within the framework of research projects, but also in the form of commissions from science and industry. We focus on three main areas of work
Collaboratively developed information services
Services for research data management and digital preservation
Virtual research environments that integrate data and tools.
These focal areas are interlinked: Data is provided via information services, e.g. for virtual research environments. The results obtained lead to new (digital) research data, which must be adequately recorded, stored, processed, published and made available in the long term. Our products, services and projects are related to the different stages of the data lifecycle. At the same time, they are interlinked and thus support researchers and institutions throughout the entire research process.
In the future, digitalization and automation of laboratory environments ("smart labs") will become increasingly important for research data management.
The close interlocking of consulting, planning, development and operation leads to a continuous transfer of our research results into practical application. A key characteristic is the combination of interdisciplinary understanding of scientific requirements with professional software development and the efficient operation of e-research solutions in a cooperative environment. Our users and partners are research institutions, academic institutions, commemoration organizations, scientific societies and publishers.
