International Summer School ISWS 2025: ISE team with valuable contributions

From 8 to 14 June 2025, the annual „International Semantic Web Research Summerschool“ (ISWS 2025) took place in Bertinoro, Italy – a real highlight for all participants! The summer school, organised by Prof. Dr. Harald Sack and Prof. Dr. Valentina Presutti (University of Bologna), is one of the absolute highlights of the year for the young researchers of the Information Service Engineering (ISE) team! With 60 participants, the summer school was a complete success! And best of all, we were able to attract 11 internationally renowned professors as lecturers for the school! The ISWS Summer School in the field of the Semantic Web is a fantastic opportunity for young talents to develop their skills and acquire valuable knowledge. The ISE team at FIZ Karlsruhe played a key role in shaping and co-organising this event, and we are really delighted to have been part of it.

In addition to Prof. Harald Sack, Ms. Marzieh Malekzadeh Mahani, Mr. Etienne Posthumus, and Ms. Gunjan Singh from the ISE research group also took part in this year's event. Mr. Ebrahim Norouzi made a great contribution to teaching as an assistant tutor! The ISWS Summer School is something very special—small research teams are formed to collaboratively work on a research problem and develop innovative solutions. It’s wonderful that both Ms. Mahani and Ms. Singh were part of the two teams that won the Best Scientific Report awards. Ms. Singh’s team was also one of the runner-ups for the Best Project Presentation award, and Ms. Mahani was one of the runner-ups for the Best Minute Madness presentation. Congratulations to all!

The ISWS Summer School continues to be celebrated by its participants on social media. All in all, the event was a complete success. We are, of course, extremely pleased to hear comments such as "It was great to meet so many highly motivated young people. The way the school is organised is very inspiring. You learn and network a lot and at the same time have a lot of fun" naturally make us extremely happy. We at the ISE team are totally enthusiastic and highly motivated to give our very best again at the next Summer School in 2026 and, as always, to contribute with full commitment.
