Dr. rer. Nat. Sven Hertling of FIZ Karlsruhe will be working as W3 deputy professor for Data Science in Mannheim

Karlsruhe, August 8, 2024 – Our FIZ colleague Dr. Sven Hertling is making an exceptional career move: from the upcoming winter term, he will be taking over the W3 professorship in Data Science at the University of Mannheim on a deputy basis from Prof. Dr. Heiko Paulheim, who will be working as Vice Rector in the newly elected Rectorate from October.

Only just in June Dr. Sven Hertling successfully defended his dissertation on “Knowledge Graph Generation and Integration at Scale” with summa cum laude in Mannheim. Since the beginning of 2024, he has been supporting FIZ Karlsruhe with his expertise in the field of knowledge graphs as a researcher in the Information Service Engineering (ISE) unit.

The fact that he has already taken on a deputy professorship so soon after completing his dissertation is an outstanding career success for Sven – not really surprising for his colleagues at FIZ Karlsruhe, who have already witnessed the excellence of his research themselves, but all the more reason to congratulate him. We wish you all the best and every success for this next stage, dear Sven!

And even if FIZ Karlsruhe has to “hand over” one of its best researchers, we still have a small consolation: Sven Hertling will stay with us and the ISE team on a reduced contract for a few hours a month.
