FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure is an internationally leading provider of scientific information and services. We are recruiting for the position of a Chemoinformatician (m/f/x) for our location in Karlsruhe to start the earliest possible.
In our e-Research department we develop innovative information services for scientists (e. g., German Digital Library, Archivportal-D), virtual research environments (e. g., TOPORAZ) and research data management systems (e. g., RADAR). In doing so, we consider the FAIR principles and– as much as possible – the idea of Open Science/Open Data.
The systems are developed in joint projects with renowned research institutions, universities, archives, and libraries. We use state-of-the-art technologies with a special focus on open source software in order to produce and operate performant, safe, and maintenance-friendly systems. For projects focussing on research data infrastructures and “smart laboratory” environments (linking laboratory equipment to electronic laboratory notebooks and data repositories) in the fields of chemistry and nanosafety research, we are looking for a Chemoinformatician who is interested in the digital transformation in chemistry and related disciplines.
Qualification and Skills:
Master of Science degree in computer science, cheminformatics, or chemistry (with programming experience)
An excellent command of agile programming languages (preferably PHP, Ruby, Groovy / Grails)
Experience with electronic laboratory books (e. g., ElabFTW, Open Enventory, Chemotion)
Skills in object-oriented software development with Java / JavaEE
Good familiarity with file formats such as Molfiles, CIF, JCAMP and notation languages like CML and SMILES
A sound knowledge of libraries such as RDKit, CDK and OpenBabel
Experience in working with modern development tools (Eclipse, Git, Tomcat, etc.)
Awareness of software quality (“clean code“) and experience with applications like Jira, Bamboo, Sonar, Crucible, etc.
A methodical approach to work and the ability to work in a team
Experience with agile development processes, preferably SCRUM
An excellent command of spoken and written English

Your salary will be based on the collective agreement for public sector employees (German Tarifvertrag öffentlicher Dienst (TVöD)) and will depend on your profile. The position is limited to two years with an optional extension.
