FIZ Karlsruhe shapes CPDP.ai 2025 with expertise in data protection law

Karlsruhe, May 26, 2025 - From May 21 to 23, 2025, CPDP.ai - one of the leading European conferences on data protection and privacy with over 1,200 participants from all over the world - took place in Brussels. FIZ Karlsruhe was once again prominently represented this year with colleagues from the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) department, both in terms of organization and content.

Dr. Dara Hallinan, Program Director of the conference, was instrumental in shaping the thematic focus. Stephanie von Maltzan, together with the Data Protection Law Scholars Network, organized a networking event as part of the official reception - a space for informal exchange among data protection experts.

Prof. Dr. Franziska Boehm was represented on three panels. Among other things, she discussed current issues relating to the protection of medical data (panel organized by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Strufe, KIT), the legal framework of the Law Enforcement Directive and as a jury member of the Young Scholar Award of the European Data Protection Law Review (EDPL).

New this year were two specialist tracks: one on technical perspectives on data protection and another specifically for data protection officers. Both formats offered space for interdisciplinary dialog with the active participation of FIZ experts.

A small highlight on the side: FIZ Karlsruhe was once again involved in the traditional CPDPub quiz on the first evening of the conference - humorous, knowledgeable and well-connected.

With their active participation, our colleagues from IGR contributed to making current topics of data protection law internationally visible and to shaping the dialog between science, practice and politics.
